Las Vegas, NV –  Nevada Senate Majority Leader Mo Denis released the following statement in response to the Republican shutdown finally coming to an end last night:

“I am thankful that Washington Republicans finally listened to reason and accepted the compromise negotiated by Senator Reid yesterday.  Thanks to Senator Reid, furloughed workers are going back on the job, Nevada’s national parks are reopening, and access to healthcare for millions of Americans has been protected.  Denying people healthcare is an unacceptable excuse for shutting down the government, much less provoking another recession by allowing the United States to default on its loans.  Now that this crisis manufactured by the TEA Party has ended, it is time for Republicans to come to the table and negotiate with Democrats on a long term solution to reducing our deficit that doesn’t cut Social Security, turn Medicare over to private insurance companies, or protect tax breaks for corporations that are shipping American jobs overseas.”
